About Us

about

The welfare of the rural farming community and their pets has been a need that was identified and addressed by a local farming family on an “ad-hoc” basis. Earlier this year (2020), this family and a couple of neighbouring friends joined forces and Farm Paws was officially registered as an animal welfare Non-Profit Company.

Farm Paws are situated in the Raithby (Stellenbosch/Somerset West) district and is currently providing care-assistance to the owners of the underprivileged dogs and cats of the Raithby farming communities and surrounding rural areas. FarmPaws’ mission is to ensure the sterilisation and general health of the underprivileged pets, and to educate these pet owners on pet nutrition and care.

Our objective is to eradicate unregistered backyard breeders on the farming- and surrounding rural communities, and our quest is being supported by the published Western Cape Animal By-law that mandates breeding (unsterilised pets) to permit holders only, and limits the number of dogs and cats per household and thus ensuring a better life to those pets.

Farm Paws transport the pets to and from animal hospitals for sterilisations, vaccinations and emergency care. Preventive medication like deworming and tick-treatment is administered to pets, and weatherproof kennels provided where possible.

Farm Paws is a registered PBO (Public Benefit Organisation) and can provide Section 18(a) certificates for tax rebate purposes.

Thank you for your willingness to assist us with providing the above care-services to our needy community and their pets.

The rural areas that we support are low-income families, where one or none of the family members has a regular/permanent income and their animals are mostly dependent on us for food and care. Many of them lost their jobs during Covid-19 and were not re-employed post-Covid-19. FarmPaws also tries to assist these families with food and clothing where possible.

You can make a difference by donating items on our wish-lists (we will collect), or by financial donations to our Farm Paws account.
